Workshops on Wellbeing don't work without Strategic Systems Design.

I love training teams in resilience and thriving, but I've stopped doing it.
A few years ago, half of my annual enquiries from leaders were for workshops and training for their staff on improving their resilience. Most of these leaders were genuinely well-meaning. They didn't fit the stereotype of wanting people to toughen up so they could load more on; they just genuinely didn't know how to help their people be ok and really wanted to offer tools to thrive.
I respect that, and love doing the training, so did a lot of them.
But the truth is, workshops on wellbeing don't work.
(Yes, I'm very aware that I offer workshops on wellbeing, so hear me out...)
Yes, people needs tools, skills and self-reflection to handle the stressors of life and work. Yes, sometimes they also need an objective reality check about the fact that their job is MEANT to be hard, and it's not a bad thing to finish the day exhausted. And yes, they absolutely need more help to handle the discomfort of interpersonal challenges or unrealistic expectations from their managers.
But fixing those things does nothing to the actual problem. The society-wide problem causing their frustration is that our systems and workplaces are designed for an era that doesn't exist any more. The people are different, the priorities are different, communication systems are different, trust is different, and personal or professional fulfilment is definitely starting to look different.
But our workplaces, our systems, our fundamental approach to leadership, haven't adapted.

That's why I don't offer these workshops anymore.
I'll ONLY work with teams if the leader also let's me work with them.
I'll only treat staff training as one initiative in the work needed to overhaul the likelihood of thriving people, and thriving businesses.
That means infrastructure, as un-wellbeing as it sounds. It means technology, communication, administration, procedures. All the boring stuff that doesn't sound sexy to CFOs. There's good fun stuff too like culture, leadership, cybernetics, conflict tolerance, inclusivity, clarity, strategy...
But none of those things operate in isolation. Cue strategic systems design and auditing. So from now on, I'm only available to assist with how we get your whole organisation thriving, with you at the centre of those changes. And THEN I'm happy to chuck in a workshop or three to help the team meet you in the middle :-)
Want to ACTUALLY fix the problems, not the symptoms?
